At Min y Don Llandudno, we believe a true sense of place is more than a view— it’s a feeling. It’s the hush of early morning over the Little Orme, the scent of sea air drifting through open windows, and the quiet pride of a community steeped in heritage. It’s something you can see and touch, reflected in the brushstrokes of local artists who capture the soul of North Wales.

🎨 Celebrating the Welsh Landscape Through Original and Signed Limited Edition Prints

We are proud to curate a collection of original artworks, photography and limited edition prints by renowned Welsh artists, including Pierino Algieri, Rob Piercy, William Selwyn, and Kyffin Williams. These pieces are more than decorative—they are deeply personal expressions of place, each chosen to reflect the spirit of North Wales.

  • Pierino Algieri, based in Conwy, blends realism and emotion in his depictions of local scenes, offering a heartfelt connection to place and memory.
  • Rob Piercy, a former art teacher from Porthmadog, paints with deep reverence for Snowdonia’s rugged beauty, creating works that feel like love letters to the land.
  • William Selwyn evokes the shifting moods of Eryri (Snowdonia) in delicate, shimmering watercolours.
  • Kyffin Williams captures the drama of Anglesey and the mountains with bold, sculptural palette knife strokes.

From Algieri’s emotive realism to Piercy’s reverent mountains, Selwyn’s luminous watercolours, and Williams’ sculptural landscapes, each artwork invites guests to pause, reflect, and connect with the land.

We are also honoured to feature Carmarthenshire artist Dawn Morgan, whose recent work adds a fresh historical and emotional layer to our collection. Drawing inspiration from an R. Green watercolour housed in the Llandudno Museum, Dawn has reimagined Min y Don as it might have appeared before Llandudno became a major tourist destination. In her piece, she gently removes the Ty Gwyn stone building that once stood prominently in the foreground, inviting viewers to imagine a quieter, more elemental landscape. By blending archival reference with creative interpretation, Dawn’s work evokes continuity, memory, and place, complementing the emotional resonance found in the works of Algieri, Piercy, Selwyn, and Williams.

Just as historical artworks anchor us in memory, sometimes the smallest discoveries whisper stories of the past. One such story lives in the shoe in the wall—a quiet mystery uncovered in Min y Don Llandudno. Tucked away behind plaster and time, the shoe speaks of lives once lived, of rituals and beliefs now half-remembered. It’s a reminder that atmosphere isn’t just created—it’s inherited. At Min y Don Llandudno, we honour both: the visible brushstrokes of Welsh artists and the invisible threads of local lore that make Llandudno feel like home.

🏡 Why a “Sense of Place” Matters in Hospitality

As Conwy and Eryri Ambassadors, we understand that guests don’t just visit a location—they seek to feel it. That’s why every detail at Min y Don Llandudno is chosen with care: from locally sourced breakfasts to the textures and tones of our interiors, we aim to root your stay in the rhythms of Llandudno and the wider region.

Art plays a powerful role in that journey. It invites conversation, memory, and emotion—reminding us that we are not just in a place, but of it.

🌿 What’s Next: A Growing Collection

This is just the beginning. We are actively seeking more works from North Wales artists—both emerging and established—whose pieces reflect the land, the people, and the stories that shape our coast and countryside. If you are a local artist, or know someone whose work belongs here, please reach out at enquiries@minydon.wales.

And if you find yourself admiring a piece during your stay, don’t be shy—you can always ask if it’s for sale. You never know what treasures you might be able to take home.

Keep an eye out for our upcoming Artist Spotlight Series: “Sense of Place Through Welsh Eyes”, where we’ll introduce each artist in more depth and explore how their work enriches the atmosphere at Min y Don Llandudno.
