🏡 A Day in the Life of a B&B Owner at Min y Don Llandudno

Boutique guesthouse Min y Don in Llandudno with the Great Orme rising behind under a clear sky.

(aka Controlled Chaos with a Sea View)

4:45 am – The night shift ends. Security (China) has completed her overnight patrol, keeping every guest safe from seagulls, shadows, and suspicious crisp packets. Now she’s ready for her just reward — a long walk on the Great Orme or along Llandudno Promenade, on the lookout for foxes, cats, and the odd Kashmiri goat.

China, known as “Security” at Min y Don Llandudno.
China, our resident “Security” keeping a watchful eye from her favourite spot!

It’s Teresa’s favourite time of the day — peaceful, almost other-worldly. The town is quiet, the air fresh, and the serenity of walking at dawn is something truly special. On clear mornings, the sunrises over the Little Orme are spectacular — painting the bay in pinks and golds that make even the sleep deprivation worth it. It’s the kind of beauty that reminds us why we do this.

  • Wild Kashmiri goats grazing on the Great Orme in Llandudno during a quiet morning
  • Sunrise view of Llandudno Pier, Little Orme, and townscape with Happy Valley gardens and the Lower Cable Car Station below, seen from the Great Orme
  • Sunrise from the Great Orme in Llandudno, with golden light spreading across the sea and coastal landscape
  • Sunrise view of Llandudno Pier from a path in Happy Valley Botanical Gardens, with warm morning light and coastal scenery
  • Sunrise over Little Orme with pink and orange hues reflected on wet sand at low tide, viewed from North Shore beach in Llandudno
  • View of Llandudno Pier and town from the Great Orme road at dawn, with glowing lights and a dim, early sky.
  • Sunrise over Llandudno Pier viewed from North Shore Promenade, with warm hues reflecting on the sea and Victorian architecture
  • Early morning walk along North Shore beach in Llandudno with a glowing red horizon, moments before sunrise

5:45 – 6:00 am – Coffee break for humans (essential). It’s also time to check overnight bookings and, scarily, the review websites (TripAdvisor) — seeing if we’ve managed to keep everyone happy and maintain our top spot as one of Llandudno’s highest-rated B&Bs. A quick sigh of relief (or mild panic), then straight back to reality.

6:00 – 6:45 am – Time for the morning walk with “Front of House” and “The Boss.”

  • Front of House (Bryn) — the ever-welcoming Weimaraner, greeter-in-chief and master of tail-wag diplomacy.
  • The Boss (Mali) — the calm matriarch who keeps everyone in line with the occasional withering glance that says, “Behave.”

Together they patrol the seafront with dignity and enthusiasm, ensuring no chip or passer-by goes uninspected.

7:00 am(or earlier if we’ve got the rally crowd in or guests heading off on a North Wales tour) – Breakfast prep begins. Poached eggs? Scrambled? One guest wants “crispy bacon but not too crispy.” Another asks if we can make the mushrooms taste exactly like last time. No pressure — apparently, we’ve set a very high bar.

8:00 – 9:30 am (sometimes till 10:00) – Guests start arriving for breakfast at our adults-only boutique B&B in Llandudno. Cheerful, windswept or slightly sun-kissed from yesterday’s Great Orme adventure.

Behind the scenes, we’re spinning plates — quite literally. Making sure every breakfast is cooked perfectly to each guest’s liking, freshly prepared fruit is beautifully presented, and the teas and coffees arrive piping hot and on time. It’s organised chaos, but it’s what makes mornings at Min y Don so special.

10:00 am – The furry team know breakfast is over and are hoping we’ve had first-timers staying overnight. They’ve learned that new guests always over-order — and leave a few scraps! Our regulars, on the other hand, over-order deliberately as a thank-you for the “overnight security service.” 🐾

11:00 am – Room changeover. For staying guests, we have to work out — are they in or are they out? Some need a nap to recover from breakfast. If they’re out, we replenish their complimentary tea and coffee trays, change towels if needed, and provide fresh milk in the fridges.

Others have checked out, and the room needs a full transformation — showers washed, toilets cleaned and sanitised, sheets changed, floors hoovered, windows polished, and even the door handles shined. Every detail counts when you run a boutique bed and breakfast in Llandudno.

2:00 pm – The car park space is reserved for new arrivals (whenever they eventually turn up). Sometimes a visit to Bodnant Garden delays them — which is lovely for everyone… except us. Protecting that treasured parking space can be surprisingly stressful when you don’t know if they’re still admiring the roses or halfway back!

6:00 pm – The evening quiet sets in — time to make our own tea (which often ends up looking suspiciously like breakfast for two). Toilet-roll consumption remains one of life’s mysteries. We swear some guests eat them overnight; there could be no other explanation. 🧻

9:00 pm – We’re usually in bed by now, ready for the next morning. Déjà vu…

Because at the end of the day, running a boutique adults-only B&B in Llandudno isn’t just about cleaning rooms or serving breakfast — it’s about welcoming old friends we just haven’t met yet, while knowing that Security (China), Front of House (Bryn), and The Boss (Mali) are always on duty. 💙🐾

💬 Final Note

We invite every guest to share their experience by leaving a review after their stay — whether it’s for one night or a full week. Every detail of your visit is the result of seven years of unrelenting hard work, designed to make each stay special.

When you post your review, you’re not just rating a room — you’re helping support independent hospitality, a small team that pours heart and soul into every cup of coffee, every breakfast plate, and every warm welcome.

Thank you for being part of the Min y Don family. 🌊 Diolch yn fawr!

If you haven’t experienced it yet, perhaps it’s time to book your stay directly with us — and see what really goes on behind the scenes at Llandudno’s friendliest seafront B&B.
