We’ve Been Talking About It… And We’ve Finally Done It!

Following on from our recent update about Room 103, we’re pleased to share the second part of what we’ve been working on behind the scenes at Min y Don Llandudno.

This one has been a long time coming.

For years, we’ve talked about making better use of a room that wasn’t being used to its full potential. At the same time, we’ve listened to guests who loved staying with us but found that mobility challenges made returning difficult.

The more we thought about it, the more obvious the solution became.

So, we’ve finally done it.

Introducing Room 101, our new ground floor suite in Llandudno.

Why Room 101?

If you’ve read our recent Room 103 blog, you may have noticed that Room 101 somehow became Room 103.

No, we’ve forgotten how to count.

The reason goes back to a special project we commissioned a few years ago at Min y Don Llandudno.

One of our guests, KJ Glass Design, beautifully handcrafted a set of bespoke glass door signs for us. Each sign features a wave design inspired by the meaning of Min y Don, which translates from Welsh as “at the edge of the waves.”

The design reflects our close connection to the sea and the coastal setting that defines Min y Don Llandudno.

We absolutely love them and wanted to ensure they continued to have pride of place throughout the house.

So when we created our new ground floor suite in Llandudno, it seemed the perfect opportunity to reshuffle the room numbers and give those handcrafted signs a new home rather than letting them go to waste.

The result is the Room 101 you see today.

A Space with History

Room 101 occupies a part of the house at Min y Don Llandudno that has served several purposes over the years.

When we ran The Copper Mill, it was our second dining room. Before that, it was a lounge.

More recently, it had become a space that was rarely used to its full potential.

At the same time, we found ourselves having more conversations with guests—many of whom we’ve come to regard as friends—who were unable to stay with us due to mobility issues.

That didn’t sit comfortably with us.

We wanted to create a more accessible accommodation option in Llandudno that would allow more people to enjoy a stay at Min y Don Llandudno, regardless of whether stairs had become a challenge.

Designed Around Guest Feedback

Just like Room 103, this project has been shaped by the people who stay at Min y Don Llandudno.

Over the years we’ve listened carefully to what guests have told us, and Room 101 reflects many of those conversations.

Being located on the ground floor is, of course, its biggest advantage, but we wanted to create more than just accessible accommodation—we wanted a suite that felt spacious, comfortable, and welcoming.

One of our favourite features is the separate lounge area, giving guests somewhere to relax, read, enjoy a coffee, or simply sit and chat.

If you’re staying with friends or family in other rooms, it’s also the perfect place to gather together for a proper chin wag at the end of the day.

A Quick Thank You

A project like this doesn’t happen in isolation.

We want to take a moment to say a genuine thank you to the people who helped bring Rooms 101 and 103 to life.

Our plasterers, MS Plastering (Scott and George), worked across both rooms, helping everything come together smoothly during a very busy period. Their work created the foundation for the finishes you now see throughout both spaces.

Our tiler, Dave (known locally as “Chippy”), worked across both bathrooms in Rooms 101 and 103. The attention to detail in both spaces really shows in the finished result, and has played a big part in the overall feel of the bathrooms.

It’s the kind of work that often goes unseen, but it’s absolutely essential. The finishing touches really do make all the difference.

The Lounge

The lounge features a beautiful Ercol suite that has been lovingly reupholstered by Bastable Upholstery.

The craftsmanship is outstanding and we’re absolutely delighted with the finished result. The suite has been given a new lease of life while retaining all the character that made it so special to us.

It’s a warm, comfortable space that feels like a true home from home at Min y Don Llandudno.

The Bedroom

The bedroom offers flexibility as well as comfort.

The super king bed is from Sealy Hospitality Range and is the same specification used in leading hotels including The Savoy.

It can also be configured as twin beds, making Room 101 suitable for couples, friends travelling together, or guests who prefer separate sleeping arrangements.

Like every room at Min y Don Llandudno, we’ve focused on creating a space where guests can properly relax after a day exploring North Wales.

The Bathroom

The bathroom has been designed with comfort, practicality, and accessibility in mind, and includes:

  • Twin sinks
  • LED mirrors
  • Comfort-height toilet
  • Non-slip walk-in shower

Bathroom furniture, fittings and fixtures were supplied by NWT Direct, chosen specifically for their quality and suitability in a hospitality environment.

Artwork & Finishing Touches

The bathroom artwork is something a little more personal.

It features a photograph taken by one of our guests a few years ago —something we were kindly given permission to display. It adds a very personal connection to the space and reflects the relationships we’ve built over time with returning guests at Min y Don Llandudno.

We’ve also included artwork by William Selwyn and Owen Meiler throughout the suite, helping to bring colour, character, and a strong sense of place.

Created for Our Guests

At its heart, Room 101 exists because of our guests at Min y Don Llandudno.

It’s the result of years of conversations, suggestions, and feedback, combined with our desire to ensure that more people can continue enjoying a stay with us.

Some of our happiest moments as hosts come from welcoming returning guests through the door.

With Room 101, we’re hoping even more people will be able to do just that.
