Eight Years at Min y Don… and Rheinallt Has Signed Me Up for a Half Marathon!

Participants and spectators gathered before the Llandudno Triathlon start with Min y Don, Llandudno Pier, and the seafront in the background.

What a weekend for Llandudno.

Events like the Wild Horse Brewing Co. Llandudno Triathlon & Duathlon are more than just sport. They bring the town to life.

Hundreds of athletes, supporters, and visitors fill the seafront, local businesses see a welcome boost, and there’s a real sense of energy across the community. Cafés are busy from early morning, the promenade is lined with spectators, and there’s a shared pride in seeing Llandudno showcased at its very best.

It’s a reminder of just how important events like this are for Llandudno — not only for the local economy, but for community spirit and how the town presents itself to the wider world.

This year’s event once again highlighted our coastline, community, and scenery in a way few other things can.

While the weekend was sadly overshadowed by an incident that required the response of the emergency services, our thoughts are with everyone affected. It should not take away from what was otherwise a fantastic event for our town and everyone involved.

From the early morning swim to the cycle around the Great Orme and the final run along the promenade, the determination and achievement of every competitor was genuinely inspiring.

Watching it all sparked something… or rather, Rheinallt had an idea.

So… what’s happened?

Apparently watching hundreds of athletes made Rheinallt think entering me into the Conwy Half Marathon was a perfectly reasonable suggestion.

So this November, I’ll be running my very first half marathon.

That’s 13.1 miles.
21 kilometres.
One Teresa.
And, if we’re honest, a slightly worrying amount of confidence from my husband.

Eight years at Min y Don

This year marks eight years since Rheinallt and I took over Min y Don Llandudno.

We’ve welcomed guests from all over the world, many of whom have become friends. We’ve shared stories, celebrated milestones, and been part of so many special memories.

It felt like the right moment to mark the occasion by giving something back.

Supporting Wales Air Ambulance

One moment from the triathlon weekend stood out in particular.

It was a powerful reminder of just how vital our emergency services are here in North Wales. We are especially grateful to the Wales Air Ambulance, who we see working in this area regularly and who provide critical care when every second counts.

The Wales Air Ambulance delivers lifesaving, hospital-level care across Wales, reaching people on our coastline, in rural areas, and in the mountains when they need it most.

It is a service many of us hope we never need, but are deeply thankful exists.

This year, we’re using the Conwy Half Marathon challenge to raise funds in support of their work.

The challenge ahead

I’ll be taking on the Conwy Half Marathon this November — my first ever half marathon.

My current goal is simply to complete it in under 2 hours.

Between now and race day, I’ll be sharing training updates, progress, and the occasional moment of doubt as the miles start to build.

You can follow along on Strava and see how the journey unfolds — the good runs, the tough runs, and everything in between.

Over to you

Eight years at Min y Don Llandudno.
One half marathon.
One incredible cause.
One slightly nervous Teresa.
And a husband who thinks signing me up for this was “a good idea”.

What could possibly go wrong?
