Today marks the start of the 16-week countdown to the Conwy Half Marathon – the race Rhein kindly entered me into less than three weeks ago.
Apparently, a couple of leisurely runs up and down Llandudno Promenade each week wasn’t considered adequate preparation for 13.1 miles, including the dreaded climbs and descents over the Great Orme.
So the proper training starts tomorrow.
Naturally, this also happens to be the start of our busiest three months of the year at Min y Don Llandudno.
Excellent planning.
The good news is that we’ve already made a flying start with the fundraising.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of family, friends, former guests and current Min y Don Llandudno guests, we’ve already raised more than a third of our ambitious £1,000 target for the Wales Air Ambulance.
That support is hugely motivating.
It’s much easier to tackle early-morning runs, hill sessions and increasingly questionable training plans when you know every mile is helping such a worthwhile cause.
As for the coaching, Rhein has fully embraced his role.
He now follows me around monitoring pace, heart rate and running form whilst dispensing expert advice from the saddle of his newly acquired electric bike.
To be clear, the e-bike was purchased purely for coaching purposes.
That’s his version of events, anyway.
A huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far. Your generosity has given us a fantastic start and plenty of motivation for the 16 weeks ahead.
Please continue to follow our progress and support this amazing cause.
And don’t forget to keep an eye on our JustGiving page, which you can find here:

Every mile run, every pedal stroke and every trip up the Great Orme is helping us raise money for the Wales Air Ambulance.
